Making Things...
.
It feels good to be sewing again. I find that when I don't sew, I start feeling a little crazy. The children are in their electronics-induced comas (i.e., videogames) so I try to use the time as efficiently as possible...oh, and put in a load of wash, fold the wash, plan a New Year's Eve dinner for friends (who thankfully don't care what the house looks like!), update the website finally, and yada, yada, yada.
This is a pic of a project I'll be teaching at the Lancaster Heritage Museum on January 28th. If you have always wanted to learn to make traditional blocks the easy way, please come join me. At my classes, we sew, chat, eat chocolate, and such...generally have a pleasant day whilst learning about foundation piecing.
I've also been spending time with Electric Quilt. I have my new project for the Lancaster Quilt Museum in the works and will post the preliminary drawings soon. After much soul-searching, I am going to attempt some kind of queen-size quilt. I want it to be "me", but want to make something that will have broad appeal so that it brings the Museum lots of $$. As quilt artists, I guess we sometimes have to walk that fine line between "the art" and "commercialism". My plan (which seems to change hourly) is to take a traditional design, "rock" the blocks (to keep in the Rockin' Lancaster theme), and use my hand-dyes as accents to the bold colors of the Amish traditions of our area. Like last year, I'll be keeping my progress on-line at my website. Please check it out in the coming weeks to see the thrill of victory and agony of defeat.
