The Fair...Part Deux
I promised more pics....Here is one of the side show attractions....This lady hangs by her hair whilst doing all sorts of things...Gave me a headache just watching!
Ahh...my personal favorite....This is as close to a Wall of Death as we get
around here....Motorcycle guys in an iron cage...
Here is a display of the Grange Cookery area depicted with Barbies & Kens
Always a crowd pleaser....the Angel Food Cake contest!
And last but certainly not least...the winners of the Small Vegetable Arrangement contest.
So...that's enough excitement for one day...
The next fair is the Bowers Chili Pepper Festival in September!

The Reading Fair
I promised pics from the Reading Fair (proun: Redding). Here are half of the pics: Here are my sons about to ride a carnival ride put together by someone with a 4th Grade education:
Next, we have the awards for 3 canned vegetables. These folks get my admiration. I find it much easier to spend $1 for a can of beets.
On to the quilt barn...They had a display of antique quilts...I love the snappy redwork one.
Best pumpkin is below....
Here is the back end of my son, while his father (gray hair) is about to be eaten by a blow-up T-Rex
And last but certainly not least....Best of Show Garlic. Stand by...more tomorrow!

Leftovers are Good
Decided to make something with the leftovers from the One-Yard Hearts class. Free-cutting, fused, wave quilted with variegated thread. I really love the freedom of just cutting up fused fabric and playing with it. Problem is, like everyone else, I seldom give myself the luxury of time. Too many things to do, deadlines to meet, cats to neuter (just one today...Lucky isn't so lucky today).
But I will take time later today to attend the Reading Fair....Ah yes, a truly cultural event. Ending with what is touted as the "World's Largest Demolition Derby" tonight at 7:30. The upside is that I will have the opportunity to risk food poisoning and artery disease by feeding my family "fair food" tonight. Also, we'll get to see what the locals have to offer in prize-winning zuchini. The downside is that my kids will insist on riding fair rides that have been put together by some scary looking individuals.
Fairs are a big deal in these parts. Every little town or borough has their own, complete with prizes of $3 for "Best" whatever. They are truly a slice of life and an interesting place to people watch. So I hope to have some pics tomorrow!

I have finally gotten to work on some class samples. This is called One Yard Hearts. The nice people at Brubaker's Sewing Center (www.brubakerssewing.com) are hosting the class on September 24th. Just a half day of cutting and fusing with one yard of multi-colored fabric. Very freeing and a lot of fun.
I just got a new batch of dye powder from Pro Chemical along with some Print Paste Mix which I have never tried. I've done some color work with dye sticks, but didn't like the crayon-y lines. I'm hoping to get some better results with dye thickened with the Mix. I'll either have great results...or a huge mess. Some of my messes have been legendary. Like the time I tried to use basting spray on a twin size quilt on the deck. The wind blew up one corner and not thinking, I stepped on it. Then I stepped on it again with my other foot to free up the already stuck foot. It got worse from there. The batt ended up stuck together. I had leaves and other tree leavings stuck to my feet, which of course ended up lodged in the batt. I ended up calling in reinforcements (husband) to help me get the thing flat again.
Yup...you live...you learn.
