Post Mortem Reorganization

Back from one of the nicest quilt guilds...McLean Quilters Unlimited. I did a program about my work in appraisals and then held a fabric dyeing workshop. I got back last nite, and today is reorganization day. Drying out all of the dye gear and getting it packed up so it is ready for next time.

Now that all of my official obligations have been accomplished, I am really, really going to get organized to move into my new sewing digs. Sure, it's just across the stairwell, but as any quilter knows, moving your "stuff" is dangerous business. What if you stick something somewhere and you'll never find it again? When it was at the bottom of the 12 inch stack of quilt magazines and fat quarters, you could find it. But now that the thing is "organized" it might never be found.

I will post progress reports, in the hope of encouraging other people, or gaining some sympathy.

Insomnia

I go through spells where I can't sleep. I've been awake since 3AM and decided to come down into the studio to do some packing. I'm teaching Timid Souls quilt class on Saturday in Lancaster. So right now I have batting being pre-soaked to spin and dry and cut for the kits (which I cut last nite). Then I have fabric to dye for Virginia trip, finish the kits for Timid Souls hand-dyeing class, and pack stuff for the appraisal lecture. I haven't been through my collection of antique fabrics/ephemera in awhile, so I'm looking forward to that. I just keep adding things as I find them and don't go through the entire collection until I need it for something...and I usually find things that I forgot I bought.

I'm also working toward moving the studio. I just took down some quilts I had hanging and will put them away. The only problem with moving to a smaller space is the design wall issue. The only thing I can figure out is that we need to make some kind of moveable, foldable system.

Enough of the boring stuff. I hope to have something interesting to show soon.

I Am Such A Tourist

Back from AQSG (American Quilt Study Group)Seminar. It was held in Farmington, CT, at the Hartford Marriott Farmington. It only took about 4 1/2 hours to get there. Here's a couple of shots of the Hudson River at 60 miles an hour....

Since I had some extra time, I decided to stop in Litchfield, CT. Now here's a town right out of New England. It absolutely looked like photos in Yankee Magazine. The quaint little downtown area...(complete with a Talbot's)...

And is this quintessential New England, or what?

This is where the real tourist comes in. In fact, it's more like something my grandmother would do... Before you think I'm totally nuts, I would like to relate that I am still shell-shocked from the hotel I stayed in at Paducah last spring...dirty, smoke-filled, wallpaper peeling...and $130 a nite.
THIS room was $99 a nite.....

Nice "facilities" too....

And a view of the courtyard....

Besides all of the terrific speakers (my head is swimming with the information)...We took a side trip to Mark Twain's house in Hartford....Very nice digs...

And by golly Harriet Beecher Stowe's house was right across the yard from his...

Both were very nice inside, but alas, no photos allowed.

I also can't show you photos from the Seminar either, copyright being what it is these days. But if you have any interest in historical quilts and fabrics, AQSG is the group to which you need to belong.

On the road home....
